Ulster Wildlife is a local conservation organisation that focuses on protecting and restoring natural habitats.
Our mission is to ensure an Ulster rich in wildlife by working in partnership with local communities, landowners, and businesses, to protect at least 30% of land and seas in Northern Ireland for nature by 2030, focusing on key species and environmental education to promote a sustainable approach to nature conservation.
Ulster Wildlife organises a portfolio of Community Engagement projects including the National Lottery Community Funded 'Our People Our Places' and 'Young Wild and Well'.
Our People Our Place: Working in partnership with Falls Community Council and St James Community Farm this project aims to promote positive health and wellbeing amongst those visiting Bog Meadows Nature Reserve and St James Community Farm. The project also aims to extend benefits and action out in the community and build longer term sustainability for the work at Bog Meadows and Farm.
Young Wild and Well: delivered in partnership with the Belfast Hills Partnership and Barnardo’s, this project builds on the successes of the previous Wild Youth programme, expanding the age range to 0–25 and focusing on training Barnardo’s staff to deliver their own nature-based activities for wellbeing. Delivered to SEND children and young people in Primary Schools and Youth Group settings, participants can achieve a Wild Child Award or a Wild Youth Award, through engaging with nature. Barnardo’s staff can achieve an AQA certificate in Facilitating Nature-Based Activities for Young People.
