Meet the Member - ABC Community Network

July 20, 2026

ABC Community Network is a leading support and development organisation for the community and voluntary sector across the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area.

We strengthen communities through capacity building, wellbeing initiatives, partnership working and coordinated support services. Representing a membership of over 470 community groups and organisations, we empower local people to build resilient, inclusive and thriving communities.

Our work is centred on an innovative community wellbeing model that brings together training, wellbeing services, funding support and community engagement under one coordinated approach. This enables us to respond holistically to local needs, reduce duplication of services and maximise positive outcomes for individuals and communities.

Each year, our programmes engage over 865 individuals through a wide range of activities designed to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. These include walking groups, yoga sessions, chi me, pain management programmes, arts and crafts, painting and drawing workshops, bereavement support and digital skills training. We also deliver practical courses such as first aid and fire safety, helping to build resilience, confidence and community safety.

A key part of our work is tackling loneliness and social isolation. Our volunteer-led Good Morning Service provides regular telephone support to vulnerable individuals, offering connection, reassurance and early intervention where needed. We also organise events such as Loneliness Awareness programmes, Human Library events, Women’s Health initiatives and International Women’s Day celebrations, creating opportunities for learning, empowerment and greater community understanding

As a Network organisation, partnership working is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with statutory, community and voluntary sector partners, including the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, to address health inequalities and ensure services are accessible and inclusive. Our facilities provide safe and welcoming spaces used by 29 organisations each month, supporting people from diverse backgrounds to connect, participate and build meaningful relationships.

In addition to wellbeing delivery, we support local groups through capacity-building training, volunteering opportunities and funding assistance. In the last year alone, we helped secure £206,408 in funding for community organisations, strengthening grassroots services across the borough.

Through strong collaboration, innovation and community engagement, ABC Community Network continues to empower people, support organisations and build inclusive, connected and resilient communities where everyone feels valued and supported.
