CES is saddened to share the news that our Director of Implementation and Practice, Dr David Kryl, has passed away. David passed away peacefully in the Mater Hospital in Dublin on Wednesday 10th September 2025. Our thoughts and condolences are with David’s parents, family and friends.

Born and educated in Canada, David joined CES in October 2023, relocating from England for a new adventure in Ireland. He brought a wealth of experience to the role, having implemented innovations in health services and charitable organisations across the UK.

He had a research background and previously worked for Cancer Research UK as a Senior Research Manager in Impact Assessment, and RAND Europe as a Research Leader and Head of Business Intelligence. He also held senior roles at the National Institute for Health and Care Research Applied Research Collaboration Wessex, and the Wessex Academic Health Science Network, in Southampton.

At CES David was responsible for growing our Implementation support offer, working with partners in the public sector to implement vital health strategies and leading our research and evaluation team in Dublin. David led our evaluation of Connecting for Life, Ireland’s National Strategy to Prevent Suicide 2015-2024 on behalf of the National Office for Suicide Prevention.

David was an intelligent and considered professional, highly respected by colleagues past and present.

On a personal note, David was a gentle, modest and cheerful person, who was generous with his time and fun to be around. He had a great sense of adventure, flying a light aeroplane, and riding his motorbike in his spare time. He was enjoying exploring the beauty spots of Ireland at the weekends, as well as polishing his skills as an amateur actor. He had also travelled extensively and liked to share light-hearted stories of his experiences.

There have been many tributes paid to David over the last few days, which have described him as being a lovely person, kind, thoughtful, intelligent, inspirational and a true gentleman.

We will miss him greatly.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
