The National Evaluation of the ABC Programme – Learning from Practice

Download the Guide

CES is developing resources for practitioners and policy makers based on learning from the National Evaluation of the ABC Programme. Parents, children, practitioners, service managers and other stakeholders were all involved in the evaluation, which CES conducted between 2015 and 2017. The national evaluation found positive changes for both parents and children, but also for local service delivery. A new brochure outlines what changed in service delivery and learning about what supported change for practitioners.

The evaluation found better coverage of services and greater co-ordination between providers. Existing services were improved and new services were provided. 94% of practitioners who took part in the evaluation agreed that the data and evidence they collected informed their practice.

This brochure outlines learning about what supports practitioners to use data and evidence in their practice. Interagency working was a strong feature in how the ABC Programme was delivered in all twelve areas, and some messages are included about what is needed in order for interagency working to be effective.

The ABC Programme was funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and The Atlantic Philanthropies, with an investment of €30.7 million between 2013 and 2017. The Programme is currently funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
